Pella High’s Zach Buchheit added yet another shining performance to his already sterling season, capturing first place at Saturday’s Senior All-Star Cross Country Meet in Ankeny.

Buchheit wasn’t the only senior member of Pella’s state championship team to perform well.  Alex Ropes took 17th place, while Tukker Bogaard placed 38th out of the 111-runner field; which included senior athletes from throughout the state in all four classes.

Pella’s runners competed for the Southeast squad, which won the team title, and also included Nate Carr of Grinnell – who finished fourth overall – and North Mahaska’s Tanner Wanders – who took sixth place overall.

A representative from Pella High was also featured in the girls 5k race, as Sarah Van Maanen placed 35th as a member of the Southeast team, which finished fourth in the team standings.

As the name implies, all of the athletes competing are seniors this year and are selected based on nominations that are submitted to the Iowa Association of Track Coaches All-Star Selection Committee.
