The Pleasantville girls basketball team was looking to put themselves at a 1-1 record at Carlisle last night, but couldn’t get the ball to stay in the basket in a 45-32 loss.

The 1st quarter for both teams was a toss up, as Carlisle took an 8-4 lead.  The Wildcats then stepped up and widened their lead with a little help from forwards Nikki Dabb and Macy Grace Wachal – who combined for 31 points overall.

Alessia Luna led the Trojans with 11 points. Pleasantville girls’ head coach Trevor Miller was satisfied with the way that the Trojans were able to find the open shot, but said it was unfortunate that some key baskets did not go down.

On the boys side of things, the Trojans came in with a bit of chip on their shoulder, as Carlisle had beaten the Trojans on their home court a season ago.  Pleasantville started out the game quickly with an 8-0 run in the first quarter and seemed to take commmand; but Carlisle stormed back and tied things up at 21 at the half.

Hunter Van Haalen led the Trojans in scoring with 19, while Collin Thomas poured in an all-around effort that included 13 points.  Coach Tom Wilkins was proud of the boys after coming away with the season opening win and mentioned of having flashbacks to last year against Carlisle, when his team lost a 12-point lead late in the game.

The loss dropped the Pleasantville girls to 0-2 on the season, while the boys open with a 1-0 record. Both teams face Chariton tomorrow night.
