A return trip to the State Volleyball Tournament just wasn’t in the cards for the Pella Christian volleyball team, as they were defeated 3-2 by Council Bluffs St. Albert in last night’s Class 2A Regional Final.

At first, it looked as though the Lady Eagles would breeze through the match, as they earned impressive 25-12 and 25-15 victories through the first pair of games. The Saintes weren’t ready for their season to be done yet, though, jumping out to an early lead in game three and eventually claiming a 25-23 win.

The fourth game started out much the same way, but late in the frame, it appeared that Pella Christian was regaining the momentum and might stage a comeback. St. Albert had the pieces fall in place for them again, though, to claim another 25-23 win and force a decisive fifth set.

For the third time of the night, Pella Christian had to rally from an early deficit to pull things close at the end, but couldn’t hold back the surging Saintes and find their own opportunities to score, as they fell 15-13 to end the match.

St. Albert advances to the field of eight at the State Tournament and will open up first round play against Lake Mills. Pella Christian finishes their season with a record of 28-5.
