After falling in a heartbreaker on Thursday night, the Knoxville Wrestling squad bounced back in impressive fashion Saturday by winning the team championship in the Newton Invitational. Knoxville was the smallest school in a large school tournament and took first place over C-I-M-L Power Indianola by three points. The Panthers also had five individual champions as Jay Fresh at 113 pounds, Lane Colwell at 145, Tyler Chatterton at 152, Aaron Crossett at 170, all five of his wins were by pin, and Colton Spaur at 180 pounds all took home individual gold medals. James Stittsworth at 126 pounds and Kiernen Robuck at 132 pounds earned runner-up honors. Coach Ron Peterson said it was a very good day as many of the guys showed improvement from Thursday night. Knoxville is off until this Thursday when the Panthers travel to Indianola to face the Indians and Waukee in a double dual.
