Milder Winter Not That Far From Normal Numbers

This winter hasn’t been that far outside of the normal for Iowa. That’s what State Climatologist Harry Hillaker tells KNIA/KRLS News. He says that although our expectations of snow and ice haven’t been met because of warm temperatures, we are only averaging six degrees warmer for the month overall. Because of the warm temperatures the precipitation we have received in Marion County has felt minimal, but in actual precipitation amounts for the winter we are about half an inch to an inch above our average. Hillaker tells KNIA/KRLS that although there is a lot of winter left so prediction is difficult, flooding along the Des Moines River during spring is not a major concern at this time.
