At this weeks Pella City Council meeting, a possible airport construction project was discussed. Currently Pella operates a Category B municipal airport, but has a high amount of Category C, or larger commercial traffic. The FAA has mandated that a new airport be built to comply with Category C guidelines. Mike Nardini, Pella City Administrator tells KNIA/KRLS News that the main reason behind the new airport project is that in its current location the Pella airport cannot be expanded to comply with the FAA’s safety mandates because of existing roads, so a new airport location is required. The proposed project would be midway between Pella and Oskaloosa and serve as a Regional Airport for the area.
