A rematch of one of last season’s Class 2A State Quarterfinal games is on the docket for tonight, as the PCM boys basketball team hosts Pella Christian in non-conference play.

The Mustangs won that contest by twelve points last year, and with four of five starters from last season’s team back, compared to no returning starters for Pella Christian, the Mustangs should be favored to win again.

After being tested Tuesday night by South Hamilton, PCM head coach Fred Lorensen says his team needs to continue to focus on themselves – and not their opponent.

“We just have to play the way we play. That’s the biggest thing for us – is just to be ready with a mindset to play,” said Lorensen. “We just have to keep working hard defensively, and just be mentally and physically tough. If we do that, then things’ll take care of themselves.”

On the other bench, Pella Christian head coach Larry Hessing is coming off of back-to-back wins on consecutive nights this past weekend, and says a few days off for practice has been beneficial to his squad.

Pella Christian is 2-1 overall, while No.1-ranked PCM is 4-0. Tonight’s game will be broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS, with coverage beginning at 7:15 p.m.
