It’s often said that “defense wins championships,” and if the PCM boys basketball team wants to be the last Class 2A team standing at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines in March, it will likely take an improvement on defense to accomplish that goal.

“I’m not sure we’ve been close to what our potential is yet.  We just haven’t played very well on the defensive end, for the most part, and that’s an area we really need to concentrate on getting better at,” said PCM head coach Fred Lorensen.

“We’ve got a lot of the same kids who played for us a year ago, and we felt we were pretty good defensively last year; so it’s just a matter of pulling together and realizing what individual responsibilities are – what their team responsibilities are – and just getting better.”

The Mustangs have been hard at practice, and will look to build on a 7-2 overall record when the season resumes.
