Fired up after their first Little Hawkeye Conference wins of the season, the Pella High girls and boys basketball teams came away from Knoxville last night with two more conference wins, as the Lady Dutch downed the Panthers 55-30, and the Pella boys followed up with a 77-37 win in games heard live on AM 1320 KNIA and 92.1 fm KRLS.

Turnovers plagued the Knoxville girls, as they gave the ball back to the Lady Dutch over 30 times – many of which turned into easy points for Pella.

Nine players registered points for the Pella girls, led by Regan Cooper, who had 14 points and 9 rebounds. Knoxville’s Marissa Lenger had a team-best 8 points and 4 rebounds.

The win improves the Pella girls to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Lady Dutch are back at it today for a non-conference game at ADM.

Knoxville, meanwhile, falls to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in the conference. They’re off until Monday when they travel to Centerville.

A flurry of points in the opening minutes by Pella’s Grant Barrick got the Little Dutch off to a 10-0 start against the Knoxville boys, and they never looked back, crusing to a 77-37 win last night.

The Little Dutch utilized a deep bench to get scoring contributions from 14 players, led by Barrick’s 15 points. Jace Ver Steeg added 13 points for Pella, while Jake Wassenaar notched 8 points and pulled down a team-best 5 rebounds. Knoxville’s Ryan Douglas led the way for the Panthers with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

The Pella boys are now 2-1 to start the season, and 2-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They’ll face ADM in Adel this afternoon in non-conference play.

Knoxville, meanwhile, slips to 0-4, and 0-1 in the league. They’ll return to competition Monday at Centerville.
