According to Pella Christian High School Principal Darryl De Reuiter, the two schools initially targeted a donation amount of 1000 dollars each. Thanks to the generosity of the community, they shattered that 2000 dollar goal by about 4,000 dollars. Teacher Brenda Nugteren tells KNIA/KRLS News that several teachers at Pella Christian Grade School offered incentives for their class goals. De Reuiter issued a challenge to his students, saying if they could double the collection goal at the high school, he would shave his head. The grade school raised $3,528.65, and the high school raised $2,597.81. The money raised will go toward buying Bible story books for students at the Pella Christian School in Pignon Haiti.
