A 21-6 run that stretched from the end of the first half to the early part of the fourth quarter propelled the Pella Christian boys basketball team to its first win of the season; a 59-48 triumph at North Polk last night.

The Eagles trailed by two points with just seconds remaining in the first half, when a Dan Hessing three-pointer at the buzzer seemed to load the springboard for a big second half by Pella Christian.

Hessing and teammate Blake Riggen each had 16 points to lead Pella Christian, and head coach Larry Hessing said the night showcased the potential his backcourt has.

“He’s [Riggen] quite capable of those things that you saw tonight, so it was nice to see him get off to a good start,” said Hessing. “And Dan was really steady – I thought – on the offensive end, and really got us some baskets when we needed them.”

The Eagles are now 1-1 overall and continue non-conference play this afternoon with a road game at Washington.
