The Marion County Board of Supervisors will consider an ordinance that will allow cities the first opportunity to purchase tax sale properties within their city limits. The ordinance would also allow the county the first opportunity to purchase tax sale properties in the rural part of the county. Knoxville Planning and Zoning Administrator Cindy Glick told the Supervisors at their regular meeting Monday many companies will buy properties at tax sales sight unseen. If they’re unable to flip them, they’ll leave them abandoned. The ordinance would help cities avoid litigation and paperwork on those properties.
