Seymour’s basketball teams could have combined their point totals and still not beaten the Twin Cedars girls OR boys basketball teams last night, as the Sabers cruised to a pair of Bluegrass Conference wins over the Warriors.

A 26-point first quarter by the Twin Cedars girls set the tone for the evening, as Sabers’ coach Justin Nolte was able to go deep into his bench fairly early what ended up as a 56-14 win. Ayla Crosby led Twin Cedars with 16 points, but Nolte said he was most impressed by freshman Shyann DenBurger, who came off the bench to post a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

In the nightcap, the Twin Cedars boys raced out to a 43-17 halftime lead, and closed with a strong fourth quarter to hand Seymour a 73-41 stomping. Otis Roby had 17 points, and was equalled by Hunter Embray – who came off the bench to put up his own 17-point effort. In all, the Sabers had four players score in double figures, with Eric Clark and Coy Moore recording 12 and 11 points, respectively.

With the victories, the Twin Cedars girls are now 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the Bluegrass Conference; while the boys are 3-4 overall and 3-0 in league play. Both teams head to West Des Moines to face Iowa Christian Academy today.
