An entirely new starting line-up this season has meant that every member of the Pella Christian boys basketball team has been asked to increase their individual contributions to benefit the team.  At 5-2 overall, it’s safe to say that the Eagles have gotten an increased level of play from a number of players, but one senior – Austin Vermeer – stands out in particular.

“Austin is one of those young men who did not have any varsity experience coming in to this season, so unlike some of his fellow senior post players who had a little bit of experience, he was coming in with none.  Perhaps from the first game to the seventh game he did make the most improvement,” said Pella Christian boys head coach Larry Hessing.  “Certainly he’s played well for us offensively, in terms of scoring; and we knew he was a good shooter.”

That’s Pella Christian boys head coach Larry Hessing.  As a starter, Vermeer is second on the team in scoring average, at just under 11 points per game, and is also the Eagles’ second-leading rebounder.  The Pella Christian boys are 1-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, and resume competition on Friday, January 6th, against Newton.
