The final push before the postseason has begun for the PCM basketball teams, with the Mustangs at home tonight to face Collins-Maxwell-Baxter.

After stumbling early last week in Heart of Iowa Conference play, the Mustang girls came back with a dominant win over Colfax-Mingo on Friday, and an impressive last-second win Saturday over Pella High. PCM girls’ head coach Bret Grier says since then, the focus has been on getting ready for the Regional Tournament.

“Our goal since Friday night was to start playing ‘tournament-style’ basketball for these last six games,” said Grier. “Our talk has been on stepping up the intensity throughout the next six games and make sure that we’re picking up the intensity and have the right mindset and focus heading into the tournament.”

The PCM girls are 11-7 overall and 8-6 against conference opponents.

The Mustang boys’, meanwhile, are riding a ten-game win streak, and will try and improve upon their 12-1 record in the Heart of Iowa Conference. Tip-off between the Mustangs and Raiders is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. tonight at PCM High School.
