The boys basketball teams at Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars opened Bluegrass Conference tournament play last night in Humeston with split results, as the Sabers notched a 62-59 win over host Mormon Trail, while the Saints fell 74-53 against Moulton-Udell.

The Twin Cedars boys needed 22 points in the fourth quarter to claim the win, and had four players score in double figures. The Sabers are now 7-8 overall and 5-2 against conference opponents. They’ll face league-leader Murray on Thursday night at Moulton-Udell High Schooll. The Mustangs throttled Seymour 83-24 in their first-round tournament game.

The Melcher-Dallas boys, meanwhile, slip to 2-11 overall and 1-5 against league foes. They’ll move to the consolation bracket and face Lamoni on Thursday night. The Warriors were upended by Moravia 59-48 last night.
