Schools from the Little Hawkeye, South Central, and Southeast Conferences will descend on Fairfield today for an 18 team mega-wrestling tournament. The three conferences announced the tournament before the season and will all skip their own conference meets in favor of this one. Knoxville Coach Ron Peterson says while he would rather have an L-H-C meet, he adds this meet will provide a dress rehearsal of sorts for the district in two weeks. He says the focus in practice is getting better each day. Pella High, meanwhile, had some strong individual showings in this past Tuesday’s double-dual at Grinnell and will try to build upon some of those personal successes in today’s tournament-style meet. Along with Little Hawkeye Conference opponents the Panthers and Little Dutch will see Centerville, Albia, and Davis County from the South Central Conference along with Washington, Mount Pleasant, and Keokuk from the Southeast Conference among others. Competition on the mats at Fairfield High School begins at 10:00 a.m. this morning.
