Though she saw a certain degree of varsity playing time last season, Pella High senior Madeline Meyer is having a bit of a break-out season as a starter for the Lady Dutch.

While Pella forward Regan Cooper garners much of the attention from the opposition, Meyer has provided a steady presence on offense for the Lady Dutch; averaging just under 7 points per game while sinking 35.7 percent of her three-point attempts and making the team’s second-most trips to the free throw line.

Those categories can be measured statistically, but Meyer also does things that will not show up in a box score, says head coach Jerod Garland.  He cites Madeline’s defensive intensity and the energy she brings to the floor as key assets that help make the team better.

Meyer will continue to be a key part of the potential success for the Pella girls basketball team, when they try and build upon a 5-2 start to the season on Tuesday against Oskaloosa.
