A match-up of two of the better Class 2A girls basketball teams in the state took place at Pella Christian High School on Saturday, and unfortunately for the host Lady Eagles, their nine-game win streak came to an end in a 74-72 loss to No. 8-ranked Western Christian.
Pella Christian, who is No. 11 in the latest Class 2A rankings, outscored the Wolfpack 20-8 in the first quarter, but Western Christian came right back to score 31 second-quarter points and tie the game at 39 at halftime.
From there the two teams battle back-and-forth for control of the lead, with the Wolfpack ultimately taking the win. The two teams had faced each other during the offseason in a camp hosted by Calvin College in which the Lady Eagles earned a narrow three-point victory.
The loss drops the Pella Christian girls basketball team to 9-2 overall. They’ll return to conference play on Tuesday at home against Norwalk.
