Pella High split their games last night with Grinnell, as the Lady Eagles cruised to a 45-18 win over the Tigers, while the Pella boys came up short in a hard-fought 57-51 loss.

Katie Sunderman, Madeline Meyer and Regan Cooper each put up nine points in the opener as Pella steadily pulled away in the second quarter to go up 21-7 by halftime and shut the Tigers out in the third quarter to remove all doubt by the final period.  The win bumps the Pella girls to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Fans were treated to a thrilling back-and-forth battle in the nightcap, that saw the Little Dutch offense turn cold down the stretch in the six-point loss.  Grinnell’s Joe Nowasell seemingly couldn’t miss – scoring 21 points to lead all scorers – and the Tigers won the battle on the glass; turning a number of offensive rebounds into easy points.

Jace Versteeg led the Pella boys with 17 points, and Lucas Boyd chipped in 12 in the loss.  The Little Dutch are now 4-1 in the conference and 4-4 overall.

Both teams are at home again on Friday as Pella hosts Pella Christian.
