The first of a pair of back-to-back non-conference doubleheaders left the Pella High basketball teams with a pair of home losses, as Dallas Center-Grimes defeated the Pella High girls 42-35 on Saturday afternoon, and the Mustang boys downed the Little Dutch 54-41.

In the opener, the Lady Dutch held Dallas Center grimes to just nine points in both the second and third quarters, and trailed the Mustangs by one – 30-29 entering the final quarter.  The Pella offense stalled in the final eight minutes, though, getting outscored 12-6, and were handed their seventh loss of the season.  The Pella High girls basketball team is now 9-7 overall on the season.

The boys’ game saw Pella High struggle to find its touch at the offensive end of the floor, as Dallas Center-Grimes out-scored the Little Dutch 40-27 over the final three quarters after a 14-14 tie in the opening period.  Grant Barrick paced the Pella offense with 15 points, and Lucas Boyd added 11.  The loss drops the Pella Boys to 8-6 overall.

Both Pella High varsity basketball teams continue non-conference play Tuesday night, when they host Washington.
