Another slow start against a hot-shooting team sent the Central College men’s basketball team to its second conference loss in three days, as Simpson College upended the Dutch 89-71 in Indianola last night.
The Dutch clearly missed the offensive abilities of key reserve player Nick Marinkovich – who is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury – and sputtered to a 45-25 deficit at halftime. From there they outscored the Storm 46-44, but by then it was too late.
Jacob Winkler came off the Central bench to score a game-high 20 points, and Demarco Turner tallied 18 points to lead the Dutch on offense. The Central men (12-3 overall, 5-2 conference) will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday, as they try to resume their winning ways in an Iowa Conference home game against defending league champion Luther College.
