[simage=6955,200,y,left] Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz introduced legislation yesterday that would require voters in Iowa to have photo identification in order to vote. Schultz tells KNIA/KRLS News that there’s a huge loophole in the system that he’s trying to close, and there’s no way to prove that fraud isn’t happening. Currently, a person is able to vote without a photo ID if another person vouches they are who they claim to be. Schultz says that the bill is a result of a collaborative effort with a committee of both Republican and Democratic county auditors. Opponents of the bill fear it will disenfranchise seniors and student voters.
