Just over a month after the announcement of the new district alignments for the 2012 and 2013 football seasons, our local high school teams learned who their non-district opponents would be and what order they’d play facing their opponents in for the next two falls. Here are some of the highlights:

Knoxville’s schedule begins with a traditional Highway 14 rival – PCM – to open the season on August 24th in Monroe. The following week, they’ll host another HIghway 14 rival as Newton comes to Knoxville. Also for the Panthers is a week four match-up at Pella High, and a road game this season at Oskaloosa. Pella High opens with tough slate, travelling to 4A Marshalltown to open the season on August 24th, then following that with a home game against Washington, and a road game at Grinnell.

Down to Class 1A this season, Pella Christian ties in with a sister community, travelling to Lynnville-Sully to open the season on August 24th, and continues the rivalry with Des Moines Christian with a home game on September 14th. PCM again faces Knoxville, this time to open the season, and squares off against West Marshall on September 7th.

Also bumping down a classification next fall, Pleasantville’s new schedule lets them host Martensdale-St. Mary’s on August 31st and includes a trip to B-G-M in Brooklyn as the longest road trip of the season. Our local eight-man teams open up the 2012 schedule against each other, as the Sabers will host Melcher-Dallas on August 24th. Twin Cedars also travels to new eight-player team Wayne on August 31st, while Melcher-Dallas has a tough home game on October 12th against Lenox.
