During the past year the US Army Corp of Engineers sought public input regarding a mandatory life jacket wear program for all boaters on Lake Red Rock. The program was to be implemented this year, and would serve as a test site for other locations, in an effort to make boating safer. John Holt, Assistant Operations Manager at Lake Red Rock tells KNIA/KRLS that the Corp has listened to the public, and based on the response they received, the program will not be implemented. The decision was made at the Corp Office in Rock Island, and followed the recommendation of Lake Red Rock Corp staff. Holt says he is pleased with the decision, and with the public input they received.

Mike Langtraat of Pella, a boater at the lake, led the opposition to the proposal. Langstraat tells KNIA/KRLS that he is pleased, and that he would like to thank the Corp for their decision and other boaters who responded to the Corp’s request for input.
