People across the nation will be participating in an event this weekend that will help scientists learn more about birds. The Great Backyard Bird Count runs today through Monday. Marion County Naturalist Marla Mertz says it’s an easy thing for anyone to do. Participants can count birds at their bird feeder or go on a hike – it doesn’t matter. Mertz says all you have to do is count the total number of each species of bird you see, and then send the information in online. The Count website even has helpful guides to help you distinguish the species.
