Pella Police Department Weekly Police Report
02/19/12 to 02/25/12
During the week of February 19, 2012 to February 25, 2012, the Pella Police Department
received 110 calls for service, issued 25 citations, 37 warnings, 21 parking tickets and arrested 4
people resulting in 4 charges.
COMMUNICATION CENTER WEEKLY STATS
During the week of February 19, 2012 to February 25, 2012, the communications center fielded
230 telephone calls, assisted 37 people at the window, and fielded 32 incoming calls on the 911
system.
ARRESTS
• On 02/19/12 Marcus A. Dearborn, 25, of Pella was charged with O.W.I. Marcus was
incarcerated for the night.
• On 02/19/12 Angela D. Vaneck, 31, of Pleasantville was charged with driving while
suspended. Angela was cited and released with a court date set for her appearance.
• On 02/20/12 a juvenile from Pella was charged with possession of alcohol under the legal
age. The juvenile was cited and released to his parents.
• On 02/22/12 Derek L. Blanchard, 23, of Pella was charged with public intoxication.
Derek was incarcerated for the night.
TRAINING
Officer Matt Huston and Lieutenant Paul Haase conducted two training sessions at the Pella
Christian High School on 01/25/12 and 02/01/12. The officers discussed internet safety and
the dangers associated with improper use of cell phones and other social media. The officers
presented to the 9th-12th grade classes.
Officer Orr conducted a Child Safety Seat class for the Pella Regional Health Center Prenatal
Class on 01/31/12. Officer Orr inspected and assisted with installing child seats for the expecting
parents. The class covered different types of seats and how they are to be used, vehicle safety
equipment and how the equipment works with child seats. Officer Orr also spoke about vehicle
crashes and the importance of child safety seat use.

Following a strong 2010-11 campaign that saw nearly every player with significant experience graduate, there were a lot of unknowns facing the Pella High girls basketball team when this past season began.

The Iowa High School Girls State Basketball Tournament opens this morning in Des Moines, and one of our local teams will be in attendance – not to play, but to try and learn what it takes to be one of the final eight teams standing in all of Class 1A.
