Three of PCM’s four State qualifiers are still alive after day one of the State Wrestling Tournament, including two that still have a shot at a state title.

126-pounder Dalton Kingery defeated drew Foster of Mediapolis in an 8-5 decision, and will face Colton McCrystal of Sergeant Bluff-Lutton today in the Class 2A Quarterfinals. Also advancing was Jake Tool, as the Mustangs’ 285-pounder pinned Tyler White of Perry in 2:24 to set up a quarterfinal match-up with Dean Broghammer of West Delaware.

At 182 pounds, Zach Findlow lost his opening-round match-up by fall, but came back to defeat Scott Brockman of Clarinda 10-7 in the first consolation round, to keep his State Tournament alive. His second round consolation opponent will be determined later today. Finally, Bryce Wignall saw a strong wrestling career at PCM come to an end on Thursday, as the 138-pounder for the Mustangs lost to John Swarte of Harlan 8-4, then was up-ended 7-4 in the consolation round by Matt Taylor of Dallas Center-Grimes.
