After an emotional week following the death of Pella sophomore Blake Van Vark, the Pella High Lady Dutch saw their season come to an end with a 72-60 loss at Williamsburg in the Class 3A Regional Semifinal Saturday night.

Midway through the first quarter, Pella was right with the Raiderettes – trailing only by one – but McCall Meade came off the bench with three 3-pointers and Williamsburg built up a 22-13 lead after one quarter and never trailed again. Pella did fight back within nine points twice late in the game but couldn’t get any closer.

The Lady Dutch struggled to slow down Williamsburg star point guard Paige Greiner, as the sophomore finished with 23 points – 12 of which came in the second half via the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Pella’s leading scorer on the season, Regan Cooper, was held to just one field goal and finished with six points. Madeline Meyer finished her career at Pella High with a big game; scoring 20 points. Bailey Vande Weerd added 13 and Katie Sunderman contributed 9 points.

Pella finishes their season at 13-10 overall and loses eight seniors from this year’s team, including Cooper, Meyer, Vande Weerd, Sunderman, Kim Korver, Maddy Scholten, Lexi DeHeer and Sierra Hrdlicka.
