The Pella High wrestling team makes its final preparations for the postseason today and tomorrow, as the Little Dutch try to carry some late-season momentum into the District Wrestling Meet. The Little Dutch closed out the season with a strong performance in a double-dual at Sigourney, and were just barely edged by Oskaloosa, 35-34, in their final regular season meet. Pella head coach Joe Burch said aside from giving up some open weight classes against the Indians, it’s been a strong close to the season for many of his wrestlers.

“We’re wrestling really well here at the end of the season, which is exactly what we’ve been trying to shoot for the whole year,” said Burch. “We had four open weights at Oskaloosa and gave up a lot of team points that way, but overall we wrestled really strong – won a couple really close matches – and some of those guys that have been getting better all year are starting to come on really strong here at the end.”

Pella High includes themselves in a loaded 3A District field that also includes nationally-ranked Southeast Polk, powers Ankeny and Indianola, and Little Hawkeye Conference foes Norwalk and Newton, among others. Competition on the mats in Knoxville begins at noon this Saturday.
