A great amount of pride will be on the line in next week’s second meeting of the season between the Pella Christian and Pella High basketball teams, but the two schools will put the rivalry aside for a moment and have their fans and the community join them in “United for a Cause” – an annual cancer awareness and fundraising event.

Pella Christian Athletic Director Brad Engbers says the big fundraising push this year will be the sales of paper “bricks” to build a “Wall of Hope” on the night of the game. Those who purchase a brick can honor or memorialize someone who is battling or lost their fight to cancer, and hopes are to cover an entire wall at Pella Christian High School with the special tributes. The “bricks” will be made available on Friday when presale tickets for Tuesday night’s games go on sale at Pella Christian or Pella Community High Schools. They will also be available the night of the game.

Fans of both teams are encouraged to leave their maroon or green shirts at home in favor of pink shirts on Tuesday night. In the first meeting between the teams this season, Pella Christian won the girls’ contest, while Pella High claimed victory in the boys’ game.
