The Pleasantville boys basketball team used an 11-0 second-quarter run to overtake Grandview Park Baptist and raced away with the game, defeating the Defenders 60-46 in Tuesday night’s Class 1A District Semifinal in Pleasantville. The Trojans were down 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, and had pulled to within 17-16 by two minutes into the second quarter when the offensive run began. By halftime, they held a 38-22 lead, and were up by as many as 21 points at one point in the second half.
Grandview Park Baptist made a few runs at Pleasantville, but the Trojans always had an answer, and it usually came in the form of Hunter Van Haalen. The senior had 32 points in the victory, as Pleasantville improved to 20-3 on the season in their final game on their home court. They’ll travel to Albia Thursday night to face Wayne in the Class 1A District Finals. It will be the third meeting with the Falcons this season. The season series was split, with each team winning on their home floor.
