A 26-6 run by Wayne from the end of the third period through the fourth quarter was more than enough for the Falcons to overtake the Pleasantville boys basketball team, as the Trojans saw their season ended with a 52-43 District Final loss Thursday night in Albia. Pleasantville had led the entire game until the Falcons seized the momentum with a 7-0 run to close the third quarter and then overtook the lead early in the fourth. The Trojans’ leading scorers – Hunter Van Haalen and Collin Thomas – each battled foul trouble late in the game, and Van Haalen fouled out with 5:06 remaining in the game with just 2 points.

“He [Van Haalen] was really handcuffed with some foul trouble, and as kids will do, he tried to force some things,” said Pleasantville head coach Tom Wilkins. “He got himself in some situations that he shouldn’t have been in, and put the official in the position to call that last foul on him; and I told him you just can’t do that.”

Wayne, meanwhile, got a monster second half out of Bryce Carpenter, as he scored 14 fourth quarter points on his way to a game-high 24. Dylan Lauer led Pleasantville in scoring with 13 points, and Thomas finished with 10. The loss ends what had been a great run for the Trojan boys. The team’s 20-4 overall record was the team’s first 20-win season since 1989.
