Kevin Herdegen returns for a second season this spring as head coach of the Pella Christian girls track and field squad. With a solid corps of upperclassmen leading the way and a year of experience under his belt, Herdegen says he’s even more prepared this season on what to expect from his athletes and from the competition throughout the season.

“When it comes to this season, I really just have to figure out my freshmen and new athletes. Last year, coming in to the program, I had to figure out about twenty girls. This year I have to figure out about ten,” said Herdegen. “Now I know our strengths, [and] I kind of know the different types of meets we attend and some of the strengths of the different teams. I’m definitely going to be more prepared for the Regional Meet when it comes to the end of the season. It just kind of gives me a familiarity with the athletes and other coaches; as well as different philosophies of what’s going on at this school and other schools.”

Pella Christian High School has been out for spring break this week, so the Lady Eagles will not be competing in today’s Little Hawkeye Conference indoor meet or the upcoming indoor competitions at Central College and the University of Northern Iowa. Instead, Herdegen says the team will put its focus toward being ready for their first outdoor competition of the season, when they travel to Chariton on March 27th.
