^[1] At 12:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon Pella Police, The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Pella Rural Fire, and Pella Community Ambulance responded to an accident at Hagens Tree Service. According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, preliminary investigation shows that John “Jack” Allen Hagens was attempting to secure a tarp to the bed of a dump truck. While standing between the raised bed and the cab of the truck, the lowering mechanism was accidentally activated, lowering the bed and crushing him. When first responders arrived on scene, Mr. Hagens had already passed away.
