Having lost only four seniors from last year’s team to graduation, the Pella High boys track and field squad appears poised for plenty of success this spring.  While the bevy of returning experience in Pella’s running events will garner a great deal of attention, head coach Brent VanHauen says the team is feeling good about their athletes in the field events as well.

“We have our jumpers returning – both in the high jump and long jump – they’re still young.  They’re just juniors and sophomores now, so they’re still working on some things and learning how to compete at the varsity level as well,” said VanHauen.

“In the throws, we have some very solid kids.  They were kind of sitting behind two of our seniors last year – who threw for us for the last two years – so those guys have been sitting back there working hard over the past few years.  We’ve seen some good things out of them.”

Pella High has 65 boys on the varsity track squad and will begin outdoor competition on March 30th at Winterset.
