A job fair is being held in Knoxville next week that’s especially geared for adults who are 55 and older. Experience Works is a work training program that helps low-income seniors get the training they need to find jobs in the area. Ruth Bolinger is the regional manager with Experience Works. She says that the recession impacted older adults particularly hard. Many, Bolinger says, didn’t have the job skills to find a new job after being laid off at jobs they had a number of years. Bolinger notes that when those older adults reach the age of 62, many of them decide to dip into their social security early, which has negative financial effects.

She says the job fair is designed to help older adults develop job search skills so they have more income coming in. Boligner notes that Experience Works cooperates with a number of local job centers to develop these training and education programs. The job fair will be at the Knoxville Recreation Center next Wednesday from 10am until noon.
