Local Girls Basketball Players Chosen for Select Teams

A trio of Marion County girls basketball players have been tabbed for a number of select teams during the annual postseason honors period.

Pella Christian’s Jasmin Schelhaas garnered the highest honors. The 5’7” senior guard averaged over 13 points per game as the leading scorer for an Eagles team that reached the Class 2A State Championship. Schehlaas was named All-South Central District and First Team All-State by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association; Second Team All-State by the Des Moines Register; and First Team All-State Back Court by the Iowa Newspaper Association.

In Class 3A, Pella High’s Regan Cooper was named All-Southeast District and First Team All-State by the IGCA; Second Team All-State by the Des Moines Register; and Third Team All-State Front-Line by the INA. Cooper was a double-double machine in her senior season for the Lady Dutch, averaging 16.9 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.

Twin Cedars’ standout Alee Hugen also garnered postseason accolades for Class 1A. Hugen was tabbed All-South District by the IGCA, as well as being selected to the association’s Third Team All-State list. The Sabers’ junior averaged 17.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this past season.
