As their first competition of the season nears, the Pella High boys soccer team is taking the steps necessary to perform well against an opponent. Little Dutch head coach Mark Solomon says early practices have focused on finding the best role for each player, and lots of work with the ball in their possession.

“Mostly we’re trying to get an idea through both individual and small and team-sided games the idea of where they fit in within the program. What is their natural tendency in terms of where they play; are they defensive-oriented; are they attacking-oriented,” said Solomon.

“And then just some things having to do with control – control with the ball, technique, issues related to that. I think repetition of that and seeing how that works out in larger groups will translate to success on game days.”

Pella High opens the 2012 boys soccer season on March 31st with a tournament at Waukee.
