Effectively, the Pella Christian boys basketball team began this past season from scratch, but after a solid campaign that saw the Eagles build a lot of depth in their bench, head coach Larry Hessing is looking forward to the team’s prospects for the coming season.

“This season was very unique when we had no returning starters. That’s very unusual, I think, in high school basketball,” said Hessing. “As we look forward to next season, we’ll have three returning starters. This group that will be seniors next year had an outstanding season as a sophomore group, and played well with others this season, but certainly the potential is there for a good season next year. We’re looking forward to it, and I know that they can’t wait to get started.”

Pella Christian does graduate six seniors from this year’s squad, including starters Dan Hessing and Caleb Van Weeldon, who both finished in the top three in scoring and rebounding this season for the Eagles. Pella Christian went 13-8 overall in 2011-12, finishing third in the Little Hawkeye Conference at 7-5.
