Monday is the last day to pay the second half of property taxes before a penalty is assessed. The deadline was moved back because March 31st falls on a Saturday this year. Many people pay off property taxes monthly through their mortgage. According to Marion County Treasurer Denise Emal, this deadline mainly affects people that have paid off their home or people that have a mortgage without an Escrow. You can pay via mail, at the Treasurer’s Office in the Courthouse, or online at the Iowa Treasurer’s website. Those payments received or postmarked after Monday will be asses a 1.5% penalty.
