Senior Boys Show the Way at Pleasantville

With a lot of work to be put in during the weeks leading up to the first track meets of the season, it’s important to have veteran leaders to help push the rest of the athletes.

The Pleasantville boys track and field team has certainly been blessed with strong leaders, as seniors Jake Burgett, Kendall Clarke, Levi Hayes, Hunter Van Haalen and D.J. Weaver will lead the way for the Trojans this spring.  Pleasantville boys track head coach Tim Koerselman says those leaders help make everything easier for the athletes and the coaches.

“They just give us great leadership – in the weight room, out on the track – and those are the kids that I expect to [help out] during meet time,” said Koerselman.  “I don’t want to have to worry about people warming up, and I expect Hunter and D.J. and those guys – they know the drill – to help out with our stretching and lifting and running stuff.  They’ve been really good leaders so far.”

Koerselman adds that by all of those seniors being involved in multiple sports, they’ve had a chance to really develop their leadership skills.  The Trojans’ first meet of the season will see them run at a meet that also includes their female counterparts, as they’ll make the trip to Monroe for a co-ed track meet at PCM.
