Borrowing heavily from the model established by the boys’ squad, the Pleasantville girls track and field team has started the season with a primary focus on strength workouts. Trojans’ head coach Brian Harken says early practices have consisted of time in the weight room, as well as capitalizing on the unseasonably warm weather in late February and the early part of this month.

“We pretty much share and do the same things that the boys are doing. We spend a lot of time in the weight room, and obviously with the good weather, we’ve been getting outside a little bit,” said Harken. “We’re just trying to get our pre-conditioning in and build as much strength as we can before we hit our meet schedule.”

The Pleasantville girls have a few more weeks to go before their first competition of the season, as they’ll open the spring track and field schedule on April 3rd with a co-ed meet at PCM High School.
