New head golf coaches have been a bit of a running theme for our local programs this spring, and the Pella High girls will be another squad under new, but familiar, leadership this season. Following Bob Fessler’s move to guide the boys program, Wade VanVark is entering his first season as the head golf coach for the Lady Dutch. VanVark says he’s looking forward to working with the girls on the team.

“The biggest thing I’m looking forward to is just getting to know the girls, developing some relationships and getting to share a game that I truly enjoy,” said VanVark. “I don’t claim to be the best at it [golf], I just hope I can throw out a few nuggets that hopefully they latch on to and we can have some fun together.”

He adds that the early spring has definitely provided a pleasant start to the golf season.

“It’s nice to come to a course and see green everywhere – instead of yellowish brown,” added VanVark. “It gets you a little more excited, gets the girls excited about coming out and puts everyone in good spirits.”

The Pella High girls golf squad opens their season with a meet in Chariton next Saturday, April 7th.
