The Central College men’s golf team dropped 16 strokes from its opening round score but couldn’t climb in the team standings at the Augustana Invitational Saturday, settling for sixth with a 315-299—614 at Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, Illinois. Illinois Wesleyan University maintained the top spot with a 300-293—593. Iowa Conference foe University of Dubuque shot 311-293—604 to grab second while St. Ambrose University, which was even with Central after round one, edged the Dutch by one stroke, 315-298—613, and claimed fifth in the 20-team field. Central won its previous three outings this spring.

Two Central golfers finished in the top 15 of the 116-man individual race Saturday. Freshman Adam Squires led the Dutch, shooting par for round two and ending with a 79-71—150 and finishing tied for ninth. Day-one leader Justin Livingston was one stroke behind with 74-77—151, good for a tie at 11th. Central travels to Storm Lake April 20-21 for the Buena Vista Invitational. The outing will be the last for the Dutch before the Iowa Conference team tournament, which kicks off April 27. The first two rounds will be played at Central’s home course, Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella.
