The Central College men’s tennis team suffered a 6-3 Iowa Conference loss to Wartburg College Saturday morning at Waverly, before rebounding with a 9-0 blanking of non-conference opponent Bethany Lutheran College. Central’s 6-3 result versus Wartburg is an improvement from a 9-0 loss suffered against the Knights earlier this season.

Senior Seth Harris notched two wins against the Knights. He scored a decisive 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles and teamed with sophomore Zane Hendricks for an 8-4 win in the No. 1 doubles match. Central’s other win came at No. 5 singles, where Tim Kahl was a 7-6, 6-4 victor.

In the afternoon matchup, Tyler opted to adjust Central’s lineup, introducing some less-familiar faces to take on Bethany Lutheran (0-2). Josh Forst, a regular on the No. 2 doubles team, stepped into the No. 4 singles spot and earned a 6-0, 6-1 win. Junior Pat Daly was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles and junior David Bouska added another 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

Central is 8-8 on the season and back in action April 7 at Dubuque for two conference showdowns. The Dutch take on Loras College at 9 a.m. and follow with a 1 p.m. contest with the University of Dubuque. The Duhawks are 0-9 while the Spartans took a 10-4 record into tournament action Saturday.
