Knoxville City Manager Harold Stewart says that city staff and the City Council are looking at making some changes to city code. During last week’s city council meeting, the council discussed changing much of the code requiring business licenses. The code could currently be interpreted in a way that requires all businesses to register for a business license, something that has not been enforced for a very long time. City Attorney Bob Stuyvesant suggested that much of the code may have been written decades ago. Stewart says that city staff and Stuyvesant are working together to clean up the code and get rid of the items the council requested be deleted. A new ordinance will be presented for approval at a future meeting.
