A strong first round helped the PCM boys hang on to third place in the team standings on Saturday in the second and final round of the Class 2A Boys State Golf Meet.
On a day where windy conditions forced everyone’s scores to rise, the Mustangs backed up their first round 313 with a 327 to finish at 640, ten stroked behind three-time defending state champion Carroll Kuemper Catholic. Waterloo Columbus Catholic claimed the team title with a 617 combined score.
PCM’s top performance came from the team’s lone senior, as Logan Van Veen shot an 81 on the final day to finish in a three-way tie for sixth at 156. Even with a third-place finish, the Mustangs still finished the season with a remarkable 92-5 record, trying the 2010 school record for wins in a season.
