The Central College men’s golf team earned its 30th Iowa Conference golf tournament crown on Saturday, shooting a combined 302 at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City to complete a wire-to-wire first place finish. The four-round score of 1,236 was more than enough to earn the Dutch their fourth straight title, as they finished 37 shots in front of second-place Luther College.
Leading the way for the Central men were three golfers in the top five, as Justin Livingston finished in third place with a 306; followed by Matt Vegter and Brent Goodenow – who each carded cumulative scores of 308 – to claim fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Along with the league crown, Central College head men’s golf coach Chad Green was also named the 2012 Iowa Conference Men’s Golf Coach of the Year. The tournament title earns the Dutch an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships, which will take place May 15-18 in Florida.
