Governor Terry Branstad stopped by Tulip Time this year, as he has done every year that he’s been governor. He talked to KNIA/KRLS News about a bill he signed into law that gives tax credits to volunteer first responders. The new law will give volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel a $50 tax credit for serving one full year. Branstad says $50 isn’t that much money, but these volunteers don’t do it for the money, they do it to give back to their community. He says the tax credit is an acknowledgment of their service.
